Description

This bust of Hercules originates from the Farnese type.

The Farnese Hercules is a colossal marble statue, most likely a Roman copy of a much older Greek bronze from the fourth centuy BC. The enlarged version, now the most famed, was made for the Baths of Caracalla in Rome (dedicated in 216 AD) where the statue was recovered in 1546 and is now on display inthe Museo Archeologico Nazionale, Naples. The sculpture depicts a muscular, yet weary, Hercules leaning on his club, which has the skin of the Nemean lion draped over it. In myths about Hercules, killing the lion was his first task. He has just perfomed one of the last of The Twelve Labours, which is suggested by the apples of the Hesperides he holds behind his back.

The type was well known in antiquity, and among many other versions a Hellenistic or Roman bronze reduction, found at Foligno is in the Musée du Louvre. A small Roman marble copy can e seen in the Museum of the Ancient Agora, Athens.

I love it! I used a 0.2mm nozzle with a 0.08mm layer height. AND I USED PLA MARBLE. It’s safe. This job was over 30 hours on the a1 mini. Size was a Z of 180mm but I later realised I could of printed it as 210mm on an angle. No problems at all. I changed the model orientation based on comments so that support was behind the neck and head, Chest facing up. As you can tell it’s rough there but it’s perfectly detailed on the face where I wanted it to be. Thank you

one time the modell had felt off. becuse the support had been tipped over second time the overhang was too long were it had no support.

how to print it the way it would worth? I tried twice, twice spaghetti. mostly my error. I tried it to Lay down on the back, to make a cleaner face futures. if print standing - loads of support cleaning. anyone have a proper sliced profile to make this print worthwhile? thanks.

Well to be honest, when I printed mine I had it on a 45 degree angle. You can kinda see how the layers are on main picture on the chest. There was a lot of supports in the beard but I had a detailed face without any ugly support remains. So basically I print with the chest facing upwards. It was a 44 hour print on my Ender 3 S1 Pro, and I havent printed it on a bambu lab printer so it is probably much faster.
